Blackboard, Course Syllabi, Books
Hello. My name is Donna Rose. My primary teaching responsibilities are with Nursing 303 or Fundamentals. This is the course that allows you to practice the skills and knowledge you have learned in the first and second semesters of nursing with live patients in a hospital setting. Very Exciting! I am looking forward to working with you as you progress in the BSN curriculum. I want to share with you information about Blackboard, course syllabi, and textbooks.
Most of you are probably familiar with Blackboard. Blackboard is the course management system that is used for each course in the School of Nursing. Most faculty use Blackboard to post the course description, syllabus, class outline, assignments and sometimes tests and quizzes. It is your responsibility to check Blackboard regularly as many instructors post important announcements in the announcement section of Blackboard. There is an online Blackboard tutorial available, please review that site if you need additional instruction with Blackboard.
As already mentioned, your course syllabi will be posted on Blackboard. The syllabus for each course should be read in its entirety and any questions regarding the syllabus should be addressed with the faculty at the beginning of that course. The student is responsible for all information contained in the syllabus.
The textbooks required for each course will be listed on the course syllabus. You may purchase books from the ODU bookstore or on-line. We do not recommend that you purchase used textbooks unless the course faculty allows. Many of our course faculty use companion online websites in their course. You will not have access to these sites with a used textbook. We also do not recommend that you sell your textbooks at the end of the semester. Many of our textbooks are used throughout the curriculum. These textbooks will also be reference materials for you as your progress into your nursing career. Before you sell a textbook, check with your course faculty.
